The Model 44 was one of four Massey-Harris tractors introduced in 1947. Over 95,000 model 44's were produced in the next 9 years. A 4-cylinder, gasoline powered version used the Massey-Harris H260 engine. There was also a 4-cylinder diesel engine, as well as a 6-cylinder Continental F226 engine. For at least two seasons, the Massey-Harris 44 was produced by a new company formed by the merger of Massey-Harris and Harry Ferguson, Inc., in 1953. Originally named Massey-Harris-Ferguson, the new company later became known as Massey-Ferguson.
